Initially, the church of St. Prokopios was a 14th-c. single-naved edifice. Of the initial nucleus, the western wall of the nave and the sanctuary survive. In the early 17th c., the church took the form of a three-aisled, timber-roofed basilica with a narthex, while the open connection between the aisles and the narthex created a type of gallery that encompassed the initial nucleus of the church. The mural paintings of the early 17th c. (1607 according to the inscription) created by the painter who had also undertaken the decoration of the church of Saints Cyricus and Julitta, followed the radical renovation of the church during that period, while a few figures of the decoration of the initial phase of the church (14th c.) survive.
